日前,来自日本东京大学的研究人员在最新一期的美国《科学》(Science)杂志上报告称,他们开发出了一种即使在水中也不会膨胀和变形的高强度水凝胶,今后有望用于制造人造软骨和人造眼球等。

水凝胶是一种在高分子材料缝隙间存在大量水的果冻状物质,可用于制造软式隐形眼镜、纸尿布等,但由于长时间置于水中后会变形、变脆弱,所以应用受到限制。

研究人员向有规则网眼结构的高强度水凝胶中添加了一种特殊的高分子,制成一种在达到人体温度的水中也不会膨胀的透明度极高的水凝胶,其含水率高达 90%。这种水凝胶制作简单,延展性强,即使在水中浸泡一个月后形状和强度也不会改变。

此外,这种水凝胶的强度也很高,每平方厘米承受 600 千克的重量也不会被压坏,而人体软骨每平方厘米只能承受 200 千克的重量。

研究人员表示,由于这种水凝胶在人体环境内也能保持初期的形状和高强度,所以有望用于制作人造软骨和人造椎间盘等。而在向体内移植诱导多功能干细胞(iPS 细胞)时,也许还可以将这种水凝胶作为“基座材料”使用,促进细胞分化和形成组织。
