昨日,大洋彼岸的美国传来喜讯。知名华人学者,CRISPR-Cas9基因编辑技术的先驱之一张锋教授与Emmanuelle Charpentier教授、Jennifer Doudna教授、Luciano Marraffini教授、以及Francisco J.M. Mojica教授一道,喜获全球知名的阿尔伯尼生物医学奖(Albany Medical Center Prize in Medicine and Biomedical Research)。张锋教授也成为了谢晓亮教授之后,第二名获此殊荣的华人学者。



阿尔伯尼生物医学奖是生物医学领域最知名、最具影响力的奖项之一,旨在表彰在生物医学领域起到重要推动作用的学者。他们做出的发现为人类健康带来了革命性的影响。自2001年设立以来,仅有33名卓越的科学家曾获得这项荣誉。值得一提的是,这些科学家中有8名诺贝尔奖得主,约占总体的四分之一。其中,有5名得主获得诺贝尔奖的时间要晚于获得该生物医学奖。因此,这个奖项也有诺贝尔风向标的意味。

2017年的阿尔伯尼生物医学奖授予了5名在基因编辑领域做出了先驱性贡献的杰出科学家。这5名得主在CRISPR-Cas9基因编辑技术的开发上做出了重要突破,让这项原本属于细菌的免疫机制摇身一变,成为了革命性的生物医学研究工具,为包括遗传病在内的诸多疾病带来了全新的治疗希望。这一基因编辑技术,也获得了“世纪发现”的美誉。

williamhill asia 很高兴在5名得奖人中看到华人学者张锋教授的名字。张锋教授在真核细胞的基因编辑中做出了重要贡献,先驱性地表明CRISPR-Cas9能被用于哺乳动物的基因组编辑。他的实验室不断探索CRISPR基因编辑领域,开发出了两种新型的CRISPR系统——CRISPR-Cpf1与CRISPR-Cas13a。前者能对基因组进行更为简单而精准的编辑,后者则能靶向RNA分子,让疾病的快速诊断成为可能。由他的团队带来的工具,正被广泛地应用到免疫学、临床医学、以及癌症生物学等重要领域,有望为疾病治疗带来全新的策略。

“很少有一项近期的发现能够像CRISPR那样,为整个研究领域带来彻底变革。它在人类健康与疾病等方面有极大的应用潜力。” 阿尔伯尼医学中心的主任Vincent Verdile博士说道。他指出,CRISPR的故事表明,基础生物医学研究能带来重大的医学和科学突破。
