为了实现这一点,他们用荧光寿命成像技术开发维甲酸的自动荧光性质并测量它在斑马鱼胚胎发育期的分布。研究小组发现维甲酸在胚胎中形成一种浓度梯度,在胚胎头部浓度较低。他们也观察到在梯度维甲酸中存在大量的“噪音”。
他们在发育的细胞中发现了一种蛋白质,这种蛋白质与维甲酸相互作用有助于减少噪音。当这种蛋白质改变时,细胞不再控制维甲酸梯度中的噪声水平,从而导致大脑组织发育中断。
研究人员得出结论,细胞内降低噪音对维甲酸梯度适当的回应和正常的大脑组织来说是至关重要的。
未来的研究将采用新的转基因技术来检测发育的大脑细胞中维甲酸反应的基因表达的噪声水平。
